Welcome to
Central Florida Hear Care.
For over 20 years we have been providing our patients the finest quality, state-of-the-art hearing and hearing aid services. We specialize in digital hearing technology specifically designed (based on your unique hearing needs) to give you back your ability to understand conversation clearly again. It's not about loudness, it's about clarity of speech. Now there is no reason for you have to suffer from the mumbling sensation associated with permanent hearing loss.
Styles
Hearing aids come in many different styles or sizes. Each has its advantages and limitations based on the hearing loss and needs of the individual. In terms of technology, any style of hearing aid can have any kind of technology. Simply put, some people will assume that because one particular hearing aid is larger than the next that it has a lower quality technology when that is simply not true. As I tell my patients, it's like comparing a bottle of "Pepsi" to a can of "Pepsi", it's all "Pepsi".
The Completely In The Canal (CIC) instrument is the smallest, most hidden model. These models rest deep in the canal. Most have a tiny nylon string attached to the faceplate to allow the user to remove the instrument. Although digital micro-circuitry can fit inside these instruments, many people with severe hearing losses cannot wear this style of aid due to power limitations.
The Canal Instrument typically resides from the lower outer ear cavity to about a half inch inside the ear canal. Advancements in digital micro-circuitry allow most manufacturers the ability to build these products with confidence. Many people are particularly fond of these instruments because they tend to hide inside the ear.
The Full Shell (FS) is also a commonly seen instrument. These aids are designed to fit inside the bowl of the outer ear. It typically fills the entire outer ear cavity. These aids can also provide a lot of power and are normally fit to people with moderately severe impairment. Recent technological improvements allow sophisticated digital electronics to reside inside these instruments.
The Behind-The-Ear (not shown above) style is an familiar type of hearing instrument. Although it has been around for over 50 years, there are some definite advantages for this product for many wearers. A product that rests behind the ear can offer the most power without feedback in many cases.
The models pictured above are shown with and without options. If you are experiencing a hearing impairment and could benefit from a hearing instrument, let Dr. Trychel show you actual models. See for yourself how they appear in the ear and how amazingly small the tiny canal aids really are. <
Technology & Price.
There are bascially two levels of hearing aid technology; analog and digital.
1. ANALOG technology has been around for nearly 50 years and is the most basic of technologies. Analog technology offers limited capability, and while there are some adjustment controls, in general they just make things louder.
2. DIGITAL technology is the most sophisticated hearing aid technology. Digital technology gives the audiologist maximum control over sound quality and sound processing characteristics. Digital technology give the patient maximum hearing benefit.
There is qualitative and quantitative evidence that digital instruments outperform analog hearing aids. Digitals are not perfect, but they are extremely good -- However, not all digital hearing aids are the same! Within the "digital" world, there are better and lesser units (all digital is not the same). It is important to speak with your audiologist to be sure you're getting the right one for you. I ALWAYS recommend digital hearing aids, unless there is a compelling reason to recommend a specific analog product.
Many people ask about pricing relating to digitals. It is important to know that thanks to the integration of digital products across hearing healthcare, better, faster, more reliable and less expensive digital hearing aids are the "norm."
People will often call and ask "what hearing aids cost"? That's like asking "what do cars cost"? It depends on what car, and what options. Hearing aids like most every thing else are available in many different qualities (technologies). The most basic of models can cost several hundred dollars, while the highest tech models can be over several thousand, and there is every point in between. In terms of technology, we look at it as "cost to benefit ratio". What particular manufacturer's technology provides the best results at the most economical price for our patients.
